In a recent interview, Blue October guitarist C.B. Hudson revealed that the band entered the studio last week with acclaimed producer Steve Lillywhite to record the much anticipated follow up to the band’s breakthrough album Foiled.

The album is being recorded in Austin, TX, about an hour north of the area where much of the band lives.

“We wanted to do the record kind of close to home,” said Hudson.  “It’s kind of far enough away from where we live, to get away from everything, but we’re still close, its kind of the best of both worlds.”

Hudson, like much of the band, was thrilled for the chance to work with a producer of Lillywhite’s stature.  Even more exciting was the fact that Lillywhite actually requested to work with the band, telling Blue October’s management that he was a big fan of theirs.

“I love it when someone [who’s producing] is really into the band, it shows and it’s going to show when we are done with the record,” said Hudson.  “He believes in the project, which is so important.”

Lillywhite has the band taking a unique approach to recording the album, which Hudson things will keep the band focused.

“Instead of cutting all the drum tracks for all the songs at one time, we’re going to do one song from start to finish and then go to the next song.  I think its cool that way, it allows you to focus on one song at a time instead of all the songs.”

Hudson says the band will record 15 tracks while in the studio, 12 of which will make the album, and three which will be used on a future release or as B sides.

“We are going to be in the studio until mid-October, I think we’ll be done way before then, but that gives us a little time to polish things up,” said Hudson.

Blue October is playing a handful of one-off shows this fall;  Hudson says that they will tease the crowd with some of their new material, but will likely wait until the album release gets closer before they fully unveil the new songs
